RAP & Security Hold

Understanding the Security Hold

When you confirm a rental, RNTLS places a security hold on your selected payment method. This isn’t a charge — it’s a temporary authorization that reserves funds in case of damage, late return, or other issues during your rental.

  • The exact hold amount is shown in your rental summary before you confirm, so you always know what to expect.
  • The hold is placed automatically as part of confirming your rental — you don’t need to do anything extra.
  • If there’s no damage and everything’s returned on time, the hold is released after your return inspection is completed and closed out.
  • If there’s an issue (damage, late return, etc.), the resolution stays pending until an Administrator makes a decision — and any approved deductions come out of the hold, with the remainder released to you.

Note: Because the hold is an authorization (not a charge), how quickly it disappears from your statement depends on your bank, even after RNTLS releases it.

Step 2: What Is RAP and How It Works

RAP (Roadside Assistance Protection) is an optional add-on that covers roadside issues during your rental — like a breakdown, flat tire, or lockout.

  • RAP is only available if it’s enabled for the specific vehicle category you’re renting.
  • You’ll see the daily and total RAP cost when you’re confirming your rental — select it if you want coverage.
  • If selected, RAP is charged for the length of your rental. If you extend your rental, RAP is charged for the added days too (if you keep it selected).
  • Using RAP during your rental: if you need roadside help, the app gives you a direct call action to the RAP service (and emergency services, if needed).
  • Unused RAP — for example, if you return your vehicle early — is refunded for the days you didn’t use.

Step 3: How Billing Works During Your Rental

Your rental billing is based on your configured billing cycle (set by RNTLS, not something you configure yourself), and covers:

  • Your base rental cost -> Shop owner responsibility
  • RAP (if selected)
  • The security hold
  • Any approved extension charges -> based on which of you will pay [ you or shop owner ]
  • Late fees, if applicable (deducted from your security hold)

Where to see your billing activity:

  • Charges and holds appear on your selected payment method.
  • Your full invoice and receipt history is available anytime under Rent History (Completing Rent section).

Note: If a scheduled charge (like an ongoing RAP charge) fails, you’ll be notified and asked to update your payment method to keep coverage active — otherwise future RAP coverage may be affected.
