Extension & Early Return

How to request a rental extension

  • From your active rental, tap Request Extension.
  • Choose your new extension duration (up to the maximum allowed for Customer-initiated requests).
  • Submit your request.

Note: You can only have one active extension request at a time per rental — you can’t submit a second one while one is pending.

Understanding who pays for the extension

Depending on how your rental was set up, either you or the Shop covers extension costs:

  • You’re the payer -> Your extension goes to the Car Owner for approval. If approved, you’re charged (plus RAP, if selected) and your hold is retained.
  • Shop is the payer -> The Shop decides first. If the Shop approves, it goes to the Car Owner for final approval. If the Shop declines, you may be offered the chance to cover it yourself instead — if you don’t respond in time, the extension is canceled.

Possible outcomes:

  • Approved — your rental’s end date and status update, and you’ll get an invoice for the charge.
  • Rejected or timed out — the extension is canceled and your original rental end date stays unchanged.
  • Canceled by an accident — if you report an accident while an extension is pending, the extension is automatically rejected and you won’t be charged for it.

Tip: You can cancel an extension request yourself, but only before the Car Owner has approved it.

Returning Your Vehicle

How to request an early return

  1. From your active rental, tap Early Return (only available within the eligible return window).
  2. Choose your new, earlier return date/time.
  3. Provide a reason, if required.
  4. Submit — this updates your rental timeline and notifies your Car Owner. You can’t submit more than one early-return request per rental.
  5. Complete the standard return/drop-off and evidence steps (covered in Completing Rent).

Your charges and any Car Owner payout are recalculated based on your actual days used, and unused rent/RAP is refunded or credited to you.

Note: If your early return follows an accident, your rental closes as accident-related, the vehicle is marked Under Maintenance, and your security hold stays pending until an Administrator makes a fault decision — it isn’t released automatically.

Understanding late return fees

  • If you don’t return the vehicle by your scheduled end time, a late fee may apply.
  • Late fees are deducted from your security hold.
  • The remainder of your hold (if any) is released after your return inspection is completed.
